Korean Airlines (KE):

Korean Airlines LogoOut of all the airlines flying into Kathmandu, Korean Airlines has the most destination cities in the United States. What that signifies is; you can fly to Nepal in one stop from ten cities. From time to time, KE has special promotions from select cities making the prices very competitive. Without the special promotions, the fares are quite expensive and this has resulted in a lower demand despite all the cities KE flies into.

Korean has two weekly flights between Seoul and Kathmandu and the number is expected to increase to four flights by the end of 2009, or sooner. Some of the flights have long layovers in Seoul.  For those passengers who have a connecting flight beyond a Korean hub city, you can ask your travel agency to route you through a city that supports a better connection time.

Korean Airlines HostessThe Kathmandu airport and customer service staffs exemplify the outstanding reputation for service quality upheld at KE. Should you have any questions or problems at the city office or the airport, the staff will go out of their way to assist the passengers.

With so many destinations to choose from, KE is trying hard to become a market leader for students and families flying to the US.  From Nepal, it has introduced deeply discounted fares for students and DV winners that are usually lower than any of its competitors. To avail these fares, you must enroll in the KE frequent flyer program and show your I-20 or DV-visa.

KE provides a free complimentary hotel, in Seoul transit, for passengers traveling to the USA; only one time for an inbound journey or an outbound journey. Passengers need to make a hotel booking with Korean Airlines prior to departure. The voucher will have a confirmed hotel booking print out, which should be made at the time of ticket issue. KE staff will guide passengers to the hotel (Hyatt Regency), which is located outside the airport. In addition, there is Korean Air's limousine service for passengers to take to the hotel.

Hotel facilities will not be provided during the embargo period, around Christmas and New Year’s time, and during the peak season of July and August. If passengers want to stay in the hotel during this embargo period, they can request the KE agent to book the transit hotel. Another option is for passengers to personally arrange the hotel while they are in transit; all at their own expense.

For passengers who wish to see Seoul during a layover, they can contact the travel desk in the transit area to arrange a city tour at a certain additional charge or around 100 USD.

The outbound flights from SFO, HNL, DFW, ATL, ORD, IAD and SEA have very long connections in ICN and Zen Travels has brought this to Korean’s attention.  Given our feedback, there will be changes in the future and at this point, Korean suggests that passengers take advantage of the transit hotels (One times free) in Seoul, and second times charges a nominal fee.

This information has been prepared exclusively for our Nepal-bound passengers and should not be copied by other businesses.
