Are e-tickets are honored in Nepal? fly2nepal.com Original posting: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 We still get weary travelers inquiring whether e-tickets to Nepal are legitimate and would the police and airport authorities officially recognize a print out at the airport. This is a very natural concern especially if one has not returned to Kathmandu for a number of years and one is accustomed to holding a secure paper ticket. One may also question whether the airport infrastructure can handle e-ticketing. Fear no more. E-tickets are recognized by staff in all the pertinent places and widely accepted by banks, embassies and government offices. Security personal that check your ticket at the airport are all familiar about e-ticketing. Although there has been anxiety, nobody has reported to us of experiencing a first-hand problem with e-tickets in Nepal over the last two years. In fact, Thai has been issuing e-tickets from Kathmandu for the past two years. Most carriers from Nepal are issuing e-tickets at this time. In conjunction with Amadeus, Qatar officially issued e-tickets from Nepal last summer. The driver for e-ticketing was a US ordinance which required all carriers to replace paper ticketing with e-ticketing by December 2008. Except in very unusual cases, all airlines issue e-tickets. Airlines will issue a paper ticket for an extra USD 25-50 and travel agencies will charge you for postage/courier. E-ticketing has advantages for airlines, passengers and travel agencies. For the airlines, it is much cheaper to deliver an electronic interchange and it provides almost instantaneous record updates compared to the time an airline would be able to calculate revenue after air stubs were accounted for after boarding of the flight. For consumers and travel agencies, it is faster, cheaper and more reliable. One does not have to worry about losing a ticket as they can be easily replaced by a simple a print out or forgetting the ticket on the day of the flight. |
